Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

1. About Juritas

Juritas (“we,” “us,” or “the Platform”) is operated from Barcelona, Spain. Juritas is an online marketplace that connects customers requiring certified sworn translations with government-authorized translators across Europe.

Juritas acts as an intermediary platform. We facilitate the connection between customers and independent certified translators but do not ourselves provide translation services. Each translation is performed by a qualified, government-authorized translator who bears professional responsibility for the accuracy and legal validity of their work.

2. Definitions

“Customer” refers to any individual or entity that places an order for a certified translation through the Platform. “Translator” refers to a government-authorized sworn or certified translator registered on the Platform. “Order” refers to a request for translation services submitted through the Platform. “Certified Translation” refers to a translation that carries legal validity as recognized by the relevant government authority in the target country.

3. Account Registration

Customers may place orders without creating an account. Translators must register and provide proof of their government authorization (e.g., MAEC appointment for Spain, Ordem dos Advogados certification for Portugal) before accessing translation jobs. We reserve the right to verify credentials and reject or revoke registrations that do not meet our standards.

4. How the Service Works

Customers upload documents requiring certified translation through the Platform. Our system uses AI technology to analyze the document — including language detection, word count estimation, and document type identification — and generates an instant price quote. This AI analysis assists in streamlining the process but does not perform the translation itself.

Upon payment, the order is made available to verified translators on the Platform. A qualified translator claims the order, performs the certified translation, and delivers the completed work through the Platform. The customer receives the certified translation as a digital document.

For Portugal, where no official sworn translator system exists, translations are prepared by qualified linguists and certified by a licensed Portuguese lawyer in accordance with Decreto-Lei 237/2001, Article 38.

5. Pricing and Payment

Prices are calculated based on the document's characteristics — including word count, language pair, document complexity, and translator availability — and are displayed to the customer before payment. All prices are shown in euros (EUR) and include applicable VAT where required.

Payment is processed securely through Stripe. By submitting payment, the customer agrees to the quoted price and authorizes the charge. Juritas holds payment until the translation is delivered.

6. Delivery and Turnaround

Estimated delivery times are provided at the time of order and vary based on document length, complexity, and translator availability. While we make every reasonable effort to meet estimated timelines, delivery dates are estimates and not guarantees. If a significant delay occurs, we will notify the customer promptly.

7. Refunds and Cancellations

Customers may request a cancellation before a translator has claimed their order, in which case a full refund will be issued. Once a translator has begun work, cancellations are handled on a case-by-case basis. If the delivered translation contains material errors that affect its legal validity, the customer may request a revision or refund by contacting us at hello@juritas.co within 14 days of delivery.

Under EU consumer protection law, digital services are exempt from the standard 14-day cooling-off period once performance has begun with the consumer's prior express consent. By placing an order, you acknowledge and consent to the immediate commencement of the service and understand that you lose your right of withdrawal once a translator has been assigned.

8. Translator Obligations

Translators on the Platform are independent professionals, not employees of Juritas. They are responsible for delivering accurate certified translations within the agreed timeframe and in compliance with the legal requirements of their jurisdiction. Translators agree to maintain the confidentiality of all documents they handle and to only claim orders they are qualified and authorized to complete.

9. Commission Structure

Juritas retains a commission on each completed translation. The translator's commission rate varies based on their tier within the Platform. Specific commission rates are disclosed to translators upon registration and may be reviewed periodically.

10. Intellectual Property and Confidentiality

Customers retain all rights to the documents they upload. Juritas and its translators treat all uploaded documents as strictly confidential. Documents are processed using AI technology for analysis purposes only and are not used to train AI models. We retain documents only for the duration necessary to complete the order and for a reasonable period thereafter for quality assurance and dispute resolution.

11. Limitation of Liability

Juritas acts as an intermediary platform. While we verify translator credentials and facilitate the translation process, the certified translator bears professional responsibility for the accuracy and legal validity of each translation. Juritas's total liability is limited to the amount paid by the customer for the specific order in question.

Juritas is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of the Platform, including but not limited to delays in document processing by third parties, rejection of a certified translation by any authority, or any losses resulting from inaccuracies in AI-assisted document analysis.

12. Use of AI Technology

Juritas uses artificial intelligence to assist with document analysis, including language detection, word count estimation, and document type classification. This technology is used to improve efficiency and provide instant quotes. AI is not used to perform translations — all certified translations are completed by qualified human translators.

13. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain. Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the use of the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Barcelona, Spain, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection provisions that may apply in the customer's country of residence within the European Union.

14. Modifications

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated to registered users via email. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
